Chapter 163: Choosing a Wedding Dress
“Don’t… don’t cry, I’m fine.”
Seeing Yang Jingwan in tears, Wang Haoran quickly tried to comfort her.
“You… you say you’re fine, but… you’re covered in bruises. How can you be fine?” Yang Jingwan was sobbing so hard that she could barely catch her breath.
“I’m strong, really, it’s nothing. We should leave quickly, in case those two come back,” Wang Haoran said, hoping to ease her fears.
Hearing this, Yang Jingwan immediately stopped crying, “Can you still drive?”
“No problem,” Wang Haoran nodded reassuringly.
Yang Jingwan quickly helped him into the car and settled herself in the passenger seat.
The car started and soon left the deserted suburban road behind.
“We’re not going to the bridal shop anymore. I’m taking you to the hospital for a check-up,” Yang Jingwan insisted, still worried.
“It’s just a few superficial wounds, nothing serious. I’ll apply some medicine once we’re back, and it’ll be fine in a few days,” Wang Haoran replied.
The truth was, the bruises were merely an act, created using his qi to make it look worse than it was. He wasn’t actually hurt.
Despite his performance, he wouldn’t allow himself to get genuinely injured.
“If it truly hurts, you must go to the hospital to avoid any lasting effects,” Yang Jingwan reminded him, still concerned.
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. Let’s go to the bridal shop first,” Wang Haoran urged.
Yang Jingwan’s affection for him had grown significantly, so she was likely to agree to his requests, even if they seemed unreasonable.
Given the situation, it was time to take some action.
If he couldn’t completely “bypass” Su Lang, at least a partial move seemed appropriate, right?
Hearing Wang Haoran’s words, Yang Jingwan felt somewhat reassured, but the memory of the recent incident still frightened her.
“I have no idea who those two people were or why they targeted me.”
“In my opinion, it’s likely that Yu Yan held a grudge over her dismissal and sent people after you,” Wang Haoran speculated, spinning a story to prevent Su Lang from revealing anything to Yang Jingwan.
In actuality, the threats were related to Su Lang’s enemies.
By dealing with them, Wang Haoran was essentially resolving an issue for Su Lang.
This was partly why he just pretended to chase them off rather than actually confronting them.
“That Yu Yan is awful!”
Yang Jingwan readily believed Wang Haoran’s explanation, as Yu Yan was the only person she felt she had offended.
“For now, don’t mention this to anyone. We don’t want Su Lang to find out about our private meetings. I’ll handle this,” Wang Haoran instructed.
“Okay,” Yang Jingwan nodded obediently.
Twenty minutes later, their McLaren arrived near Mingmen Bridal Shop.
To avoid drawing attention, Wang Haoran parked the car in a discreet spot and let Yang Jingwan get out first.
Yang Jingwan walked to the Mingmen Bridal Shop entrance, mesmerized by its grandeur and the variety of beautiful wedding dresses visible through the glass.
She couldn’t wait to try them on, having only seen photos online before. Seeing them in person was a whole new experience.
Wedding dresses held a special allure for women.
“Wife!” Su Lang, who had been waiting, hurried over when he saw Yang Jingwan.
Yang Jingwan had been imagining herself in a wedding dress with Wang Haoran in a blissful scene, but Su Lang’s interruption displeased her.
“You can choose any wedding dress you like. Just pick the one you want,” Su Lang offered.
“How much money do you have to make such a claim? Aren’t you worried about biting off more than you can chew?” Yang Jingwan said dismissively.
“Don’t worry, I have enough,” Su Lang replied confidently.
Yang Jingwan gave a small snort, choosing not to respond, and walked quickly into the bridal shop.
Seeing her interest piqued, Su Lang was secretly delighted.
Though his wife appeared unwilling on the surface, her eagerness to try on wedding dresses for him was clear.
Perhaps his year of silently supporting and cooking for her was finally reaping rewards.
Despite her stern exterior towards him, she likely had fond feelings.
Buoyed by this thought, Su Lang followed her into the bridal shop with a light step.
As Yang Jingwan browsed the dazzling array of wedding dresses, she felt overwhelmed and unsure about which one to select.
Su Lang followed closely, watching as she deliberated without deciding.
“Wife, I think that dress looks nice. Why don’t you try it on?” Su Lang suggested, pointing to a dress.
“Your taste is tacky. I don’t want that one,” Yang Jingwan quickly dismissed his suggestion.
“Miss Yang, this mermaid-style wedding dress would suit you perfectly,” Wang Haoran said as he approached, having wandered nearby.
“Do we know you?” Su Lang asked coldly, frowning at Wang Haoran.
Su Lang had seen Wang Haoran before at a banquet and had taken a strong dislike to him.
“Su Lang, we met this Young Master Wang before, remember? What’s with your attitude? It’s impolite!” Yang Jingwan couldn’t help but reprimand him before Wang Haoran could speak.
“What kind of Young Master Wang? This kind of person doesn’t deserve to know me,” Su Lang retorted arrogantly, ignoring Wang Haoran completely.
“Su Lang, you’re being unreasonable. You owe him an apology,” Yang Jingwan said firmly.
“Wife, there’s no need to cater to this rich second generation,” Su Lang dismissed, thinking Yang Jingwan was defensive because of Wang Haoran’s wealth.
“You’re impossible!” Yang Jingwan was thoroughly annoyed and chose not to continue the argument with Su Lang. She turned to Wang Haoran and apologized:
“I’m sorry, Young Master Wang. He’s just like this, lacking in manners. Please don’t take offense.”
“Hmph!” Su Lang turned away, dismissing Wang Haoran entirely.
“Su Lang, go find a staff member. I want to try on this mermaid-style wedding dress,” Yang Jingwan instructed.
“What’s so great about that mermaid-style dress? Pick something else,” Su Lang opposed Wang Haoran’s suggestion forcefully.
“If you keep insisting, I won’t try on any dresses,” Yang Jingwan threatened.
“Alright, alright, I’ll go,” Su Lang relented, heading to find a staff member.
As soon as Su Lang was out of sight, Yang Jingwan looked at Wang Haoran tenderly, “I wish it were just us here.”
“Isn’t it just you and me now?” Wang Haoran said, drawing a little closer since nobody was around.
Yang Jingwan’s heart skipped a beat, and she lowered her eyes shyly.
…
Su Lang returned shortly with a staff member in tow.
“Why is your face so red?” Su Lang asked Yang Jingwan, surprised by her appearance.
“It’s too hot in here,” she replied.
“But there’s air conditioning. I don’t feel hot at all,” Su Lang said, puzzled.
“I feel a bit hot, okay?” Yang Jingwan responded hastily, a touch impatient.
“Should I ask them to adjust the air conditioning?” Su Lang offered.
“No need!” Yang Jingwan said, pursing her lips.
