Chapter 155: The Divine Doctor's Diagnosis
Late at night.
In a basement room, the lights were still bright. The room was filled with various transparent bottles and jars containing liquids and solids of different colors. One might mistake it for a scientific laboratory, and indeed, it was quite similar. This was Wang Haoran’s private laboratory for conducting research on various drugs.
Access to this laboratory required both a key and a fingerprint, ensuring top-notch security. Moreover, it was situated within the Wang family’s private villa, meaning only Wang Haoran could enter. It was here that the poisons used against Xiao Yifeng, Yan Guishan, and Ma Hongsheng were concocted.
At this moment, Wang Haoran was working on a drug to enhance the toxicity of the Seven-Colored Water Lily. Although Ma Hongsheng spent much of his time asleep, he was still active for seven to eight hours each day. Wang Haoran had an ongoing agreement with Cheng Rui, and Ma Weicai was currently entangled in his own issues, unable to extricate himself.
Wang Haoran planned to use a catalytic drug to amplify the effects of the Seven-Colored Water Lily’s poison, keeping Ma Hongsheng in a deeper sleep each day. This way, Cheng Rui would effectively become the leading figure in the Ma family’s business.
Before long, Wang Haoran completed the catalytic drug. Once it was administered to Ma Hongsheng, the situation would be set. As for the possibility of Ma Hongsheng’s poison being cured, Wang Haoran had already taken precautions. When making the Seven-Colored Water Lily poison, he added some extremely subtle toxins as auxiliary ingredients, rendering the poison’s composition incredibly complex. This was a technique from supreme-level toxicology, difficult even for someone with Xiao Yifeng’s master-level medical skills to detect.
Without neutralizing the auxiliary toxins, any attempt to treat Ma Hongsheng would backfire and worsen his condition. Wang Haoran stored the catalytic drug and planned for Cheng Rui to secretly administer it to Ma Hongsheng. However, given the late hour, he would have to contact Cheng Rui the next day.
…
The next morning.
After making breakfast, Su Lang set out on his electric bike. This time, however, his destination wasn’t the market for groceries but a meeting with Xue Shenyi, the Divine Doctor. Su Lang was determined to ensure the success of his upcoming wedding, and Ma Hongsheng’s assistance was crucial. Unfortunately, Ma Hongsheng was currently afflicted with a mysterious ailment and unable to fully commit to helping with the wedding preparations. With just ten days left until the wedding, Su Lang was anxious to have Xue Shenyi treat Ma Hongsheng.
Su Lang brought Xue Shenyi to the Tianhui Clinic, where Ma Hongsheng happened to be awake. Upon seeing Su Lang, Ma Hongsheng respectfully stood up and greeted him, then glanced curiously at Su Lang’s companion:
“Lord War God, who is this?”
“This is Yan Wangdi, the Divine Doctor Xue,” Su Lang replied.
“Is this the renowned Divine Doctor Xue of the Imperial Capital? I’ve heard a lot about you!” Ma Hongsheng exclaimed, startled, as he greeted Xue Shenyi. He had only heard of the doctor before and never expected to meet him in person.
“Lord War God brought Divine Doctor Xue here to…” Ma Hongsheng hesitated, trying to guess the reason.
“Naturally, I brought him to treat your illness,” Su Lang said plainly.
“Thank you, Lord War God. I am truly honored that you value me so much,” Ma Hongsheng said, moved.
“I require your help with a matter, so I hope for your swift recovery,” Su Lang stated frankly.
“I will follow your orders without question,” Ma Hongsheng quickly responded.
Su Lang nodded slightly, signaling Xue Shenyi with his eyes.
“Mr. Ma, let me check your pulse,” Xue Shenyi suggested.
“Alright, alright,” Ma Hongsheng agreed and lay back.
Xue Shenyi placed his hand on Ma Hongsheng’s wrist, closed his eyes, and focused on diagnosing the pulse. After about ten seconds, a knowing smile appeared on his lips. He opened his eyes and said:
“Mr. Ma, you haven’t contracted any strange illness; you’ve been poisoned.”
“Poisoned?” Ma Hongsheng was taken aback.
“Yes, poisoned by the Seven-Colored Water Lily. This poison has been expertly blended and cannot be detected by modern instruments, but it cannot escape my divine eyes,” Xue Shenyi stated while stroking his beard. “Mr. Ma, have you offended anyone?”
“I’m in business, so I’ve offended many people because of various interests. I can’t recall who it might be at the moment,” Ma Hongsheng replied.
“Let’s not worry about who poisoned you for now; let’s focus on treatment,” Su Lang interjected. He only cared about Ma Hongsheng recovering quickly so he could help with the wedding arrangements. The identity of those involved was unimportant to him.
“To cure the Seven-Colored Water Lily poison, we need some rare medicinal herbs,” Xue Shenyi explained.
“Divine Doctor, please tell me. I’ll have someone acquire them immediately. If they’re available in Qingling, I’ll definitely get them. As long as you cure me, I’ll ensure you are well-rewarded,” Ma Hongsheng promised with a smile.
Seeing Ma Hongsheng so cooperative, Xue Shenyi’s smile broadened:
“They are just some rare herbs, not too uncommon. With Mr. Ma’s financial resources, you can easily obtain them.”
He stroked his beard and continued, “Besides collecting the herbs, I hope that once you recover, you can help promote me in your circle.”
“I completely understand your intentions,” Ma Hongsheng immediately caught on, “I have many wealthy acquaintances. Some live in luxury, while others are overstressed, and they all have some health issues.”
“That’s excellent,” Xue Shenyi laughed heartily.
It seemed that this trip to Qingling would be highly profitable. After all, the wealthy never lacked money.
Xue Shenyi wrote down the rare herbs needed on a piece of paper and then had Ma Hongsheng instruct someone to collect them.
While the herbs were being gathered, Ma Hongsheng went to Cheng Rui’s room to share the good news about having a divine doctor treat his illness.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Rui felt a pang of regret. If Ma Hongsheng’s mysterious ailment continued, it would be highly beneficial for her. Unfortunately, why did such an inconvenient divine doctor suddenly appear…
However, despite her thoughts, Cheng Rui didn’t reveal any unusual emotions on the surface and instead appeared happy and excited for Ma Hongsheng.
Cheng Rui was physically weak and needed rest, and she also had an injury on her neck. Not wanting to keep her for long, Ma Hongsheng shared the good news and promptly left.
As soon as Ma Hongsheng exited the room, the smile Cheng Rui had maintained slowly faded, and her expression turned somewhat cold and calculating. Ma Hongsheng had explained in detail that he was poisoned by someone skilled, not afflicted with a mysterious illness. Upon hearing the word “poisoned,” Cheng Rui immediately suspected someone.
Now, seeing Ma Hongsheng leave, Cheng Rui took out her phone and immediately dialed a number.
