Chapter 148: Cooperation Achieved
Cheng Rui walked into the hospital room.
“She’s here, Dad. If you don’t believe me, you can ask her yourself,” Ma Weicai said smugly, pointing at Cheng Rui.
“Ah Rui, Weicai mentioned you went into the storage room with someone…” Ma Hongsheng probed cautiously.
“Yes,” Cheng Rui nodded.
There were surveillance cameras in the hallway, and checking them would reveal that she and Wang Haoran had entered the storage room. She wasn’t foolish enough to deny it.
“Do you have anything to say?” Ma Hongsheng’s voice was low, filled with discomfort. As a man, no one could tolerate being cuckolded.
“I know that no words can explain this right now, but I will prove it with my actions,” Cheng Rui stated calmly.
She walked over to Ma Hongsheng, placing the meal box she had brought down, picked up a glass cup, and let it fall.
Crash!
The glass shattered on the floor.
Cheng Rui picked up a shard, retreated to the corner of the room, and pressed it against her neck.
“Ah Rui, don’t be rash. Let’s talk this over,” Ma Hongsheng’s face changed.
“Dad, she’s just bluffing. I bet she wouldn’t dare to…” Ma Weicai scoffed.
Before he could finish, Cheng Rui slashed the shard across her neck, and a spray of blood splattered in the air.
In an instant, Cheng Rui’s clothes were stained red as she slowly slumped against the wall.
“Ah!!!” Ma Weicai screamed in fright.
Zhen Li also turned pale.
“Ah Rui, why are you so foolish? I should have believed you. It’s my fault, it’s my fault…” Ma Hongsheng was so scared that he almost lost his mind, rushing over to support Cheng Rui.
Wang Haoran, who had just entered the room, was also shocked by the scene.
He had imagined many ways Cheng Rui might explain their meeting in the storage room, but he never expected her to take such an extreme approach.
He quickly used his X-ray vision to check Cheng Rui and soon discovered that the wound on her neck had avoided the carotid artery and was not fatal. As long as the bleeding was stopped in time, there would be no life-threatening danger. And since they were in a hospital, Cheng Rui would surely receive timely treatment.
All these circumstances seemed not to be coincidences but rather Cheng Rui’s deliberate actions. This woman was truly ruthless…
The neck is a place with many fatal points, and a slight mistake could be deadly. Yet, even so, Cheng Rui dared to do this.
The courage and ruthlessness made Wang Haoran shiver just thinking about it.
However, on second thought, he relaxed a bit. Cheng Rui’s actions were largely to protect herself. There were surveillance cameras in the hallway, and if Cheng Rui wanted to prove her innocence, she could have asked to check the footage. The footage would clearly show that she was forcibly dragged into the storage room.
But if she did that, Ma Hongsheng would surely direct his anger at Wang Haoran. Cheng Rui didn’t want anything to happen to Wang Haoran, nor did she want to lose Ma Hongsheng’s trust. In such a dilemma, she chose this tragic and extreme way to take a risk.
Fortunately, Cheng Rui was lucky and didn’t choose the wrong spot, or she would have died instantly. Of course, even though she avoided the fatal spot, she still needed to stop the bleeding in time.
Wang Haoran immediately called for a doctor.
Soon, a doctor came to stop Cheng Rui’s bleeding.
Cheng Rui was moved to a new recovery room. Her face was pale from blood loss, but she was not in any life-threatening danger, just a bit weak.
Ma Hongsheng, having been so frightened, didn’t mention anything about why Cheng Rui went to the storage room. He didn’t even ask Wang Haoran any questions. In his view, Cheng Rui was proving her innocence with her life. If he continued to doubt her, would he still be a man?
However, while Ma Hongsheng didn’t bring it up, Ma Weicai couldn’t hold back.
“Dad, are you just going to let this go?” He had finally caught an opportunity to strike at Cheng Rui, and now it was being brushed aside by her actions. He was unwilling to let it go.
“Get out,” Ma Hongsheng was afraid of further agitating Cheng Rui, which might lead her to do something foolish again.
“Dad, you’ve been cuckolded, and you can still endure this?!” Ma Weicai was so angry that he couldn’t hold his tongue.
“Get out, get out!” Ma Hongsheng shouted angrily.
“This woman betrayed you, and you can’t forgive her. If you don’t divorce her, are you going to keep her around for the New Year?!” Ma Weicai was emotionally charged.
Ma Hongsheng slapped Ma Weicai, “Have you said enough?!”
“No!” Ma Weicai covered his face, furious, seemingly unable to control his emotions:
“This woman was caught meeting a man today. Who knows how long this has been going on? You should get a DNA test on the child she bore to see if it’s really yours!”
“You unfilial son, Ah Rui is so loyal to me. How could she do such a thing? If you slander her again, I’ll sever our father-son relationship!” Ma Hongsheng was furious.
“Loyal, my foot! Only a fool like you would believe that. If you didn’t have money, would she even look at you, you old fool?” Ma Weicai seemed possessed, speaking without considering the consequences.
“You… get out, get out now!” Ma Hongsheng, enraged, started hitting Ma Weicai, driving him out.
Ma Weicai, fuming, glared at the door for a few moments before reluctantly leaving.
Cheng Rui watched the scene unfold, feeling puzzled. She had a good understanding of Ma Weicai. Although he was a playboy, he wasn’t brainless. Seeing Ma Hongsheng so angry, why didn’t he restrain himself and instead provoke Ma Hongsheng?
This was completely out of character for him.
After Ma Weicai left, Ma Hongsheng felt sleepy again and asked the nurse to take him back to his room.
In the room, only Wang Haoran, Cheng Rui, and Zhen Li remained.
“Son, shall we go back?” Zhen Li suggested.
“You go get the car. I’ll be right there.”
Zhen Li nodded and left to get the car.
“You could have pinned everything on me. Why choose such a way to prove yourself?” Wang Haoran asked, already guessing the reason but deliberately inquiring.
Cheng Rui’s gaze was complicated. She was naturally cold and even cold-blooded towards romantic feelings and had never liked any man before. But seeing that this matter might implicate Wang Haoran, she wanted to protect him while also gaining Ma Hongsheng’s trust, leading her to make such a decision impulsively.
She didn’t even understand why, after meeting Wang Haoran only once, she was so concerned about him, even risking her life. It felt like she was bewitched.
In fact, after doing it, she didn’t regret it. Instead, she felt relieved because her main goal was achieved. Ma Hongsheng didn’t pursue Wang Haoran’s responsibility.
“You don’t need to worry about it. Just stay away from me in the future,” Cheng Rui avoided Wang Haoran’s gaze.
She had tried, but found she couldn’t control her emotions, so she could only distance herself from the person who stirred her feelings.
“I said I wanted to cooperate with you, and I’ve shown my sincerity. Are you going to turn your back on me now?” Wang Haoran said calmly.
“Sincerity…” Cheng Rui pondered his words and quickly realized, exclaiming, “Ma Weicai’s abnormal behavior and actions are related to you?!”
“This is just the beginning. With his playboy ways, he’ll soon cause a big mess,” Wang Haoran smiled mysteriously.
“What did you do to him?” Cheng Rui was curious.
“That’s… a secret. If you want to know, you’ll need to trade your secret for it.”
“What secret of mine do you want to know?”
“For example, Madam, what are your measurements?”
Cheng Rui’s expression changed, and she coldly warned, “Please behave yourself!”
Wang Haoran smiled without saying a word, wrote his number on a piece of paper, and handed it to Cheng Rui.
Cheng Rui took the paper and, expressionless, tore it into pieces.
Wang Haoran didn’t mind, smiled, and turned to leave the room.
However, after leaving, he used his X-ray vision to glance back into the room.
Cheng Rui, having dropped her cold facade, was hurriedly collecting the torn pieces of paper and trying to piece them back together.
Wang Haoran smiled to himself.
It seemed the cooperation was achieved.
